Coming Together, Reflecting on Our Progress, Shaping What’s Next
The patient community has been uniquely impactful in driving progress for Long Covid, from defining the condition in the early days of the pandemic, to advocating for better outcomes today. The evolution of Long Covid Support reflects this journey, growing from a support group into a leading force in research and campaigning.
Five years on, this Long Covid Awareness Day, we invite the community to gather - both online and in person - to mark this milestone, reflect on our progress, and set the course for what comes next.
Coming Together – The Long Covid Support Community Banner
Gathering for this event is, in itself, a recognition of the vital role the community plays in navigating Long Covid. As part of this, we are proud to present the first public exhibit of the Long Covid Support Community Banner. Led by Lucy Algar, Theatre and Production Designer at University of the Arts London, this is a collaborative project created from hundreds of contributions from community members across the UK and beyond. This banner will stand as a physical representation of collective resilience and solidarity, highlighting the shared experiences that continue to shape our advocacy and support efforts.
Reflecting on Our Progress – with Guest Speaker Prof. Danny Altmann
We are honoured to welcome Professor Danny Altmann, Professor of Immunology at Imperial College London and Trustee of Long Covid Support, as our guest speaker to reflect on our progress to date. A leading voice in Long Covid research, Prof. Altmann has advised policymakers including the House of Commons and House of Lords Science Committees, the APPG on Coronavirus, the Cabinet Office, WHO, NICE, and the Department of Health.
Shaping What’s Next – The Long Covid Support Strategy 2025
The strength of our community has been central to driving change, demanding research, pushing for better care, and ensuring Long Covid is recognised. As our work continues to grow, we are proud to launch the Long Covid Support Strategy 2025, led and presented by our Trustee, Aimie Cole. The strategy outlines our vision for the future and defines our priorities in advocacy, support, and research. This event marks its official release, giving the community the opportunity to engage with the roadmap that will guide our next phase of action in service of the Long Covid community.
