Speaking up for someone with Long COVID

Carers for Long COVID often need to speak up for their loved one’s rights and needs to health and social care professionals. This can especially be the case when your loved one experiences brain fog or limited energy.

Speaking up for your loved one may involve the following:

  • helping them to report their symptoms

  • taking notes

  • ensuring professionals understand how Long COVID affects their daily life

  • keeping a concise medication list

  • writing down questions before appointments

  • asking your loved one what they want to be raised at appointments

  • keeping copies of important correspondence

All four nations across the UK recognise that family members and carers should be involved in decision-making, with the person’s consent and where they are able to make their own decisions.

You can also write to your local MP with concerns about provision of Long COVID services in your constituency. Find your local MP here.
